Wood: Reclaimed Mixed Hardwoods including Mahogany, Mango and Mindi. Mahogany is a commercially important wood prized for its beauty, durability, and color. It allows the deep penetration of a hand rubbed stain producing a deep rich grain quality finish. Mango, being one of the hardest and heaviest of all the fruit trees, the Mango wood has many qualities including the lumber is porous enough to allow the deep penetration of a hand rubbed stain producing a deep rich grain quality finish. Mindi is white cedar.
Eco-Friendly and Sustainable: Since this lumber is reclaimed and was destined to be discarded or burned, it now has been given a new life and purpose. It has been proudly reborn as HillCrest!
Because of its strength and hardness, in the 1700’s, the Dutch planted a forest of Mahogany in Indonesia making this forest, where our wood comes from, one of the oldest managed forests in the world. Today, the Mahogany tree is one of the most replanted in Asia.
Mango is a sustainable wood because the tree stops producing
fruit after twenty years and must be harvested and replaced by three young trees. Older trees
are slow to absorb carbon from the environment, but the new younger trees breath in carbon
at a much higher rate which results in our air being cleaned much faster.
Mindi is plantation grown throughout Indonesia.
Finish: Artisans hand rubbed old chestnut finish with 2 initial seal coats to insure moisture and stain uniformity with 2 coats of hand applied stain, another coat of clear sanding sealer over the stain, when dried it is hand sanded with #600 wet and dry sand paper, then multiple layers of clear high quality lacquer applied and hand sanded between each coat.
Our finishes are state of the art and very complex and it shows in the end results as we put more time and attention to detail in our finish than most any other company.
Construction:
Cases: All solid wood tops are double sealed with two coats of hand brushed sealer before assembly to insure correct and consistent moisture content. One coat of hand brushed sealer equals four coats of sprayed sealer.
Case Tops: Tops are a floating top construction which allows natural movement of wood and eliminates cracking and checking. All cases are corner blocked at every possible joint providing a stout frame. Cases are all dust paneled and have adjustable feet which allow for levelling on uneven floors.
Drawers: Finished abase wood with three coats of clear finish sanded between each coat for a very smooth interior. English dovetail joinery, Mortise and Tenon construction, corner blocked and center supported for rigid strength with full extension heavy drawer guides.
Drawer Fronts: Solid Wood.
Bed: Solid mahogany center support rail attached by a steel bracket to the headboard and footboard making the bed one of the strongest in the industry.
Bed Slat system: The Solid Mahogany Bed slats are beautifully sealed and finished.
Packaging: Napa’s Environmentally Friendly packaging is over engineered ensuring a beautiful bedroom set arrives at your customer’s house.
